FEATURED ARTIST IN JANUARY 2013: MEGAN
FEATURED ARTIST/JANUARY 2013: MEGAN
Project: Self-portraits inspired by Chuck Close using fabric on cardboard
We chose Megan to be our featured artist of the month because of her creative outlook on the color palate she chose. We like the fabrics she chose and her enthusiasm while creating. Megan showed determination and self-confidence while working in the studio.
We love having Megan in our group because she is funny, caring, and nice to all of us. She has a positive outlook on life and is great at art. She is always open to trying new art techniques. She is a helpful group member and will give us advice if we ask. She genuinely cares for everybody and thinks of others before herself. She loves Tinkerbell and is boy band crazy.
WE LOVE YOU, MEGAN!

My name is Saijee. I love to come to OTB because I love making new friends and showing
my artistic self. I love going to the mall and to the movies when we go on outings with our
OTB friends. My favorite projects to do at OTB are ones where we paint.

I like to show my creative side in art class. I like to draw, paint, make wine bags and do Christmas activities. I also like to do things with mod podge.

Hi, my name is Tracy. I love to come to OTB because love to talk to new people and make new friends. When we go on outings with our OTB friends I love to go to Eagle Creek. My favorite projects we do at OTB are things that use mod podge. I also love to do paintings and drawings of birds. All of the teachers at OTB are very nice.
Greetings! My name is Ben. I am a local artist who goes to
Outside the Box three times a week during the day. Outside the Box is a day
program that helps people with disabilities to be more independent, social, and
to help get a job. Outside the Box is so much more than a business to me. They
have become a second family to me. I have many friends with common interests
who express themselves in a way that makes you look past the disabilities they have.
I also have become friends with the staff here and the passion they have helping
others is inspiring. When I go to OTB I am with two groups, the Rainmakers and
the Free Spirits. When I do my own art I like to do fantasy, gothic, and
landscapes. When I am not at OTB I like hanging out with a friend one on one.
Have a Beautiful day!

Squares all Around
Today, we learned the first steps to making a quilt! Thanks, Laura!!
Laura Mickler (above), Ball State Graduate and Development Coordinator for her Sigma Kappa Sorority, graciously taught the Wednesday community art class the first stages of making a quilt. We each chose 9, 3"x3" squares of different fabric colors. We then sewed our small squares together to make a 9"x9" square. This square will become part of a large quilt that we will include squares from all of our OTB groups! SO COOL!!! We can't wait to see what the finished product will look like. Here are some sneak peek pictures of our experiences today. Who knew we could all sew!

Cigar Box Fun with Lynne Medsker!!
Today we had a visiting artist named, Lynne Medsker. She is a local artist here in Indianapolis. You can find her art on her website at www.lynnemedsker.com!
Lynne shared with us how to make cool and creative scenes on the surface of our cigar boxes. Our favorite part was learning how to use sand in art and make it look pretty!! Next time we will add paint to our sand and then finish it off with a nice clear glaze. We are excited about our finished product!!! We even chose a new Studio OTB logo today!
Later some of us are planning on going out to eat, shopping for a new video game, talking to our parents on the phone, or relaxing in front of the TV!
We look forward to blogging again soon!
